Sinopsis / Synopsis
La actriz y cantante mexicana Diana Mariscal alcanzó un instante de fama en la lejana década de los sesenta cuando su peculiar estilo, que mezclaba de manera fascinante inocencia y sensualidad, la llevaron a interpretar varios éxitos musicales y a estelarizar ? con tan sólo 18 años de edad ? la película “Fando y Lis” del controvertido artista Alejandro Jodorowsky. Aquel instante parecía representar el verdadero despegue de la carrera de Diana, pero la vida le depararía otra suerte y su figura pública quedaría sumergida en un profundo e indescifrable misterio que la terminaría condenando al olvido. 40 años después, sin embargo, las huellas de su existencia no han podido ser borradas por el paso del tiempo.
Mexican actress and singer Diana Mariscal reached a moment of fame in the distant 60s, when her peculiar style that mixed innocence and style in a fascinating manner lead her to play in various musical hits of the time and to star, when only 18 years old, in the first feature film by controversial artist Alejandro Jodorowsky, “Fando and Lis” (1968). That moment seemed to be Diana’s real career take-off, but life would bring about a different fate, and her public image would remain thereafter submerged in a profound and unfathomable mystery that would gradually dilute her presence, until condemning her practically to oblivion. Forty years later, however, the traces of her existence have survived the test of time.

Manuel Cañibe es egresado de las carreras de diseño gráfico por la Universidad Iberoamericana, y de realización cinematográfica por el CCC. En 1995 funda el taller de creación gráfica y audiovisual ÉRAMOS TANTOS, con el que ha colaborado para diversos clientes del ámbito cultural, ha publicado en revistas especializadas nacionales e internacionales, así como ha participado en exposiciones en América, Europa y Asia. Su cortometraje documental Five O´Clock Tea obtuvo la nominación al Ariel en el año 2003 y fue exhibido, al igual que su corto de ficción Cielo y Edén, en diversos foros entre los que destacan el Festival Internacional de Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana, La Conferencia Internacional de Televisoras Públicas INPUT 2004; y el ciclo “In the Air, Projections of Mexico”, del Museo Guggenheim de Nueva York. El silencio de la princesa es su ópera prima documental.

Manuel Cañibe graduated with both a degree in graphic design from Universidad Iberoamericana and in film directing from CCC. In 1995 he founded the graphic and audiovisual creation workshop ÉRAMOS TANTOS, where he has had various clients in the cultural sphere, published in national and international magazines, as well as participated in exhibitions in America, Europe and Asia. His documentary short Five O’clock Tea received an Ariel nomination in 2003 and was screened—along with his short film Cielo y Edén—in numerous forums among which are the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema of Havana, the International Public Television Screening Conference in 2004, and In the Air: Projections of Mexico at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The Silence of the Princess is his first documentary.
